Here’s what’s happening on the Saturday 29th March…
Sam Edwards – yoga for cyclists workshop
We all know that stretching and yoga is good for our cycling, but how many of us actually do it? In this practical session, we reveal the real reasons why yoga will transform your cycling life, plus we will provide a practical demonstration so you can feel the benefits first-hand. We’ll provide the mats and an amazing yoga teacher. All you need to do is get involved.
Our expert in residence: Sam Edwards, yoga teacher and personal trainer.
Masterclass: Gravel and bike packing with Katherine Moore
Ever fancied packing up a few belongings, jumping on your bike and heading off on an adventure into the wild? Then you need to get your bike packing game on – and who better to show you how than super tourer, journalist and all round great-egg, Katherine Moore?
Not content with just sharing her expertise in the art of outdoor exploration, the lovely Katherine will also talk us through a new genre of cycling that’s taking the women’s cycling world by storm – gravel riding – making this two brilliant brain-improving talks in one!
Our expert in residence: Katherine Moore, gravel riding supremo and bike-packing guru.
Pro Panel: My Saddlesore Story
Rebecca Charlton chats to Hannah Dines, Paralympic pro, about her labia surgery and saddle sore story to shine a light on an issue afflicting a lot of women cyclists. Plus, we get expert insight on the issue – what, why and how to deal with it from the ever insightful Doctor Jane Sterling (consultant dermatologist at a vulval clinic practice).
In on the chat: Rebecca Charlton (commentator, pundit and question master); Hannah Dines (paralympic pro); Doctor Jane Sterling (consultant dermatologist at a vulval clinic practice).
In Da Club: BellaVelo and Cowley Rd Condor
When it comes to the growth of women’s cycling, you can attribute it to all sorts of initiatives and branding exercises, but as far as we’re concerned, the thing making the BIG difference is the women’s cycling clubs and the women behind the scenes at those clubs who make the good stuff (collaboration, community, confidence-building) happen. To celebrate this and them, we talk to the women behind the biggest women’s cycle clubs in the country about why club rides rule, what else can be done to support them and why we think they’re the future of women’s cycling.
Currently featuring: BellaVelo.cc; Cowley Rd Condors.
More to be announced!
The Internationelles – Who says women can’t ride the Tour de France
In the summer of 2015 a unique event called Donnons des Elles au Velo J-1 was created, where three French women rode one day ahead of the male pro peloton at the Tour de France to campaign for women's tours to be held alongside the men’s and to raise awareness of gender equality. Every year since then, they have repeated the feat with more women joining the Internationelles team to spread the word wider. The women are not professionals, instead training while holding down full-time jobs aka total heroes. We are really honoured to have a panel from the team with us to tell their story. (Copy contribution: Samuel Baudin).
Our experts in residence: Helen Bridgman and Lou Gibson of the Internationelles team
